Thanks to Tom and Brian for their input regarding William Thomas Caldwell.

I know that he came to the colonies in 1772 and I know that he joined Lord Dunbar's forces and fought the Indians in western Pennsylvania. I also know that he had a wealthy uncle in Philadelphia. I know too that the wealthy uncle
tried to persuade him to fight for the colonies which he regused to do, having a strong loyalty towards England.

I know that he was arrested and was going to be executed. He escaped and made it to Fort Niagara whre he met a cousin,
John Caldwell. I know that he became a captain in Butler's Rangers. I know that be married Susan Baby in Detroit.
I know who all of his children were - I know when he died and when his wife died and where.

WHAT I DON'T KNOW: Was he in the military before he came to the colonies. I believe so. Was his wealthy uncle in Philadelphia a Caldwell or on his mother's side? I believe it was the mother's side because this Caldwell branch seemed like they were loyal to England.

I DON'T KNOW who performed his marriage ceremony. His wife was Catholic and all his children were brought up Catholic.
I know he converted so he could be buried with his wife in a Catholic cemetery.

I DON'T KNOW which John was his cousin as there were two
at Fort Niagara. There was Lt. Col. John Caldwell and his nephew, John Caldwell, who wore the Indian outfit in the painting as shown in "A King's Colonel at Niagara".
