4th Feb.1602 William Caldwell of Lochirmoss was part of a large party of armed men who moved from Ayr towards Maybole hoping to meet and fight with the Earl of Cassils John Kennedy. They shot John Speris the master of the Earl's household and sundry others and were denounced as rebels
Andrew Caldwell was a Hagbutter (musket holder) on the Earl's band in the same incident
