Captain William Caldwell

This question may have already been asked and answered but
I will propose the question anyway.

Does anyone know anything of the background of Capt. William Caldwell, who, along with Simon Girty and a force
of approximately 600 Indians, attacked Bryans Station,
near Lexington, KY on 14th of August 1782? A force of
Canadians were under the leadership of Capt. Caldwell in
this raid. Simon Girty was known as the "White Renegade."
