The exception to the exodus of John Caldwell & family to Canada (c. 1873) was my Ggrandfather Gavin Gibson Caldwell who went to Ireland after the birth of his second son Andrew in 1880 but before 1882 when his third son Alexander was born. James, Jane, Maggie & Mary (his last child born 1894) were also born in Ireland. He and his family returned to Scotland sometime after 1894. The family appears in the 1901 with the exception of his eldest son - John M Caldwell who was born in Glasgow in 1877. John M married Maggie Armstrong possibly in Ireland and they had sons Gavin John & Robert A Caldwell. Since I cannot find evidence of the birth of these two sons - it seems they may have been born in Ireland. John M Caldwell died in Glasgow in 1954, his wife predeceased him and his son Robert was the informant of his father's death. I would like to hear from anyone who thinks they are related to Robert A or Gavin John Caldwell.
