I doubt if there is a surame around where so many alternative meanings have been found :)

Thanks for another slant on the possibilities.

Please keep posting on your various finding as I think I was working myself into a bit of a rut in the direction I was going.

I just came up with a impossible number of places with variations of the spelling of Caldwell.

I have becaome convinced that not too many adopted their name from their place of residence (some did) otherwise there would be thousands of "Bogside's" after the innumerable farms of that name in Scotland.
