In Response To: Quaker Caldwell's ? (Tom Caldwell)

: John
: I seem to remember seeing something about Quakers in one
: of your messages - but it is too hard to find this
: late at night. I have been reading some of my material
: trying to get my mind around the difficult period from
: Charles I through to William & Mary when I noticed
: a reference to a group of Scottish immigrants setting
: up a Quaker settlement at East New Jersey. Should have
: made a note of the reference - I guess that I will
: have to re-read it all now.
: (Bother! :-)) I believe that there is a suburb there
: called Caldwell.

Hi Tom,

One of my ancestors was a Quaker. I'm lead to believe that he converted to marry. There are some others in my line that have converted to other religions, but more in the late 1800s and early 1900s.

I'll have to check out the New Jersey line and see if I can find anything there re: my line. I haven't had much luck with it so far.

Actually, there are over a dozen cities and towns in the US named Caldwell, and a few counties, too. ;)

John
